Book of the Month: FERVENT

I purchased this book at least four months ago, but I never took the time to open it and really dive in. After a massive wake up call a few weeks ago, with my life spiraling out of control, I decided it was time to pick it up again, and I’m extremely grateful I did! Wow, Priscilla writes exactly what I’m thinking and precisely what I need to hear. The enemy is against you, and it’s not who you think it is.

Priscilla Shirer

New York Times bestselling author Priscilla Shirer, widely known for her international speaking, teaching, and writing ministries, brings her new role from the 2015 film War Room into the real lives of today’s women, addressing the topics that affect them most: renewing their passion, refocusing their identity, negotiating family strife, dealing with relentless regrets, navigating impossible schedules, succeeding against temptation, weathering their worst fears, uprooting bitterness, and more. Each chapter exposes the enemy’s cruel, crafty intentions in all kinds of these areas, then equips and encourages you to write out your own personalized prayer strategies on tear-out sheets you can post and pray over yourself and your loved ones on a regular basis.

GoodReads Synopsis:

You have an enemy . . . and he’s dead set on destroying all you hold dear and keeping you from experiencing abundant life in Christ. What’s more, his approach to disrupting your life and discrediting your faith isn’t general or generic, not a one-size-fits-all. It’s specific. Personalized. Targeted.

So this book is your chance to strike back. With prayer. With a weapon that really works. Each chapter will guide you in crafting prayer strategies that hit the enemy where it hurts, letting him know you’re on to him and that you won’t back down. Because with every new strategy you build, you’re turning the fiercest battles of life into precise strikes against him and his handiwork, each one infused with the power of God’s Spirit. Fervent is a hands-on, knees-down, don’t-give-up action guide to practical, purposeful praying.

My Rating: 5.0 5-Stars.png

I couldn’t have read this book at a more perfect time in my life. God really delivers exactly when we need Him. Fervent has given me the confidence to pray openly with my whole heart. I used to be uncomfortable asking for things and felt anxious that I was simply praying wrong.  Now, with this newfound knowledge I can pray without ceasing. (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

Anyone who has a close relationship with me, knows I like to keep my books in near perfect condition. That means purchasing hardcovers, no folding the corners of pages, no loaning them to anyone, and definitely no writing in the book. Maybe I’m a little OCD. I really went out of my comfort zone reading this book. With the encouragement of the author, I actually wrote in it…with PEN! Life has never felt this vulnerable or free.

I tore out the attached sheets in the back of the book, and took the much needed time to write serious, specific, and strategic prayer plans. There are ten key areas of prayer the enemy is most likely to attack – Your passion, focus, identity, family, past, fears, purity, pressures, hurts, and relationships.

Of course my prayer cards weren’t completed without my artistic flair. I decorated the edges with washi tape. What a great exercise! I felt relieved to pour it all out on paper.

Is there a specific area(s) you feel the enemy is controlling? I pray that you find comfort in reading this book and discover the power to take back control of your life. Prayer is truly a powerful weapon.

It will change your life!
